Sisterlocks, Microlocs, and Traditional Locs: What’s the Difference?

Not all locs are created the same size, and the differences matter more than people realize. Traditional locs are larger and started with coils, twists, or freeform. Microlocs are small, thin locs made from tiny sections — giving a softer, more versatile look with styling options traditional locs can’t always do.

Sisterlocks is a specific trademarked method using a specialized tool to create very fine, uniform locs, usually requiring certified training to install correctly.

The right size for you depends on your hair density, how much styling versatility you want, and how much maintenance time you’re willing to put in. Smaller locs generally mean more maintenance time, not less.
