How to Know When It’s Time for a Loc Trim

“Do locs need trims?” — yes, and it’s one of the most overlooked parts of a healthy loc journey. Locs can develop thin, weak, or splitting ends over time, especially as they get longer and are exposed to more wear.

Signs it might be time: thinning near the tips, ends that feel weak or “stringy,” or visible splitting. A small trim doesn’t set your progress back — it protects the length you’ve already worked for by removing the weak point before it travels further up the loc.

Think of it like pruning a plant: cutting a little back is often what allows healthier growth going forward.
